Dana Maye--Born and raised in Mid-town
Atlanta, Georgia, her early years reflected
immersion in big city life--the arts, the
architecture, the fast-paced business and
cultural surroundings--and the honing of her
natural talents through a BA in Interior
Design. In the trend-setting hub that is
Atlanta, she thrived for over a decade in
the retail home furnishings industry with a
highly successful career as a Designer,
Manager and Buyer for several prominent
stores and upscale boutiques appealing to
clients craving urban sophistication.
Yet, the coast would call. "Over time,
visits to my parents’ marsh-front home and
its surrounding areas beckoned me to
relocate. I love the stunning sunrises and
scenic vistas of Cumberland Island National
Seashore and Florida's Amelia Island. And I
felt this booming area, with Jacksonville
and St. Simons only 30 minutes away, was a
prime location for a retail venture as
sophisticated as any in Atlanta.”
Doris Maye—A former communications
and management executive, she brings her
penchant for detail and organization to the
business operation of the company. Her years
of experience and education in Industrial
Psychology translate smoothly into the
complex and creative world of home
furnishings and accessories.
“I have always admired and enjoyed beautiful
surroundings. I am a firm believer that
one’s daily environment shapes every aspect
of our lives—serene or hectic; fulfilling or
lacking. Consciously or unconsciously I feel
that we all seek to surround ourselves with
people, places and things that enhance the
joy of living. Coastal Georgia ranks among
the top places to live in large part for
this very reason. Our goal, through BALLAST
POINTE TRADING COMPANY, is to offer
enhancements for local interior spaces that
complement the area’s natural beauty.”
The Store—A refreshing addition to
the area’s traditional resources, it
specializes in Provisions for the Classic
Home. You are invited to experience
industry-leading furniture and upholstery,
vintage one-of-a-kind finds, artistic
lighting, fine candles and home fragrances,
and intriguing home accents in a truly
unique setting.
BALLAST POINTE TRADING COMPANY is housed in
a 1928 historic brick building with original
12-foot tin-tiled ceilings and
brick-and-stucco walls. The site of the
former Sheffield’s Dry Goods Store, the
building is still in the Sheffield family
and anchors the prime Hwy 40/Hwy 17 corner
in the Historic Downtown of quaint
Kingsland, GA. Decorative touches throughout
pay homage to the site’s storied heritage
and provide a nostalgic glimpse of a simpler
time when shop purveyors and their prized
provisions held a special place in the
hearts of community citizens and welcomed
guests.
A true destination and experience, it's no wonder we are
complimented with comparisons to several top stores in the southeast.
To paraphrase one customer's review, "…this shop is amazing…reminded
me of a cross between bungalow (Atlanta), paris market & brocante (savannah)
and south of market (Atlanta)…what a great surprise!!!"
